It's a practice in itself to use your tongue to get know the flavors and textures in your mouth, starting with degrees of moist and dry.

What are subtleties of the food we eat? Practice with Chinese flavor categories: salty, spicy, sour, sweet, and bitter, tasting them separately, in varying degrees and in combination.

Practice Beyond Food and Drink. Taste things! What does your skin taste like? CrossOver: What are the different tastes of varying fragrances of flowers and plants? Does the air taste crisp or muggy? bright or dark? light or dense?

Separate all the different sounds. Can you separate the Electro-Magnetic pulse of the natural and man-made world?

Listening to music, can you hear the different instruments? Do you hear the breath in a flute, the touch of piano keys, beat of a drum. Listen for distinct bird voices and nuances.

Distinguish sound in perspective: close/far, front/back. hi/low, distinctive pitch - identify the multi-dimensionality of each sound and practice hearing them in 360-degree sphere.

If you can hear butterfly wings can you hear the flicker of a candle? or a shadow?

Pay attention to different perspectives:

• near/far

• textures

• how light changes

• subtle movements in seemingly still objects

• nuance of color

Can you see (sense) with your eyes on the back of your head?

From my experience, scent is a very powerful emotional trigger. Even the attachment the memory of fragrance conjures deep feelings. For example, when I think about what my grandmother's house smells, I feel secure and safe.

What are your scent-ual memories of people, places and things?

I worked in Yellowstone National Park (two summers). Never having smelled rotten eggs, is it weird that I loved the smell of sulpher coming from the pools (and even the water droplets as they fell on my skin)?

What does your skin smell like? What does you smell like during different activity? Sweet sweat can be intoxicating! Personally, there is nothing is worse than a highly-perfumed person after they have left the room.
